The area is steeped in history, and close by in Clisson, a charming Italian built town are remnants of a 12the century chateau as well as a weekly covered market that winds through the streets. Shopping at the wealth of neighboring markets is always an adventure and there are supermarkets within 15 minutes of the manoir. Splendid sand beaches on the Brittany coast are only an hour drive away and the famous Mont St Michel is approximately 4 hours distant. For more urban tastes the city of Nantes is approximately a half hour away. With a population of 400,000 including the university there are a variety of excellent restaurants, brasseries, and fine shops for all budgets plus an exceptional daily covered market Talensac and a resident chateau de la Duchesse Anne. Car rentals are available near the train station and the Nantes airport is conveniently located a half hour from Les Roussieres. The closest village is Maisdon sur Sevre, a five minute drive where the local epicerie Viveco can provide basic necessities as well as excellent cheeses, pâtés and a variety of wine and beer. The boulangerie offers excellent baguettes, pastries and croissants. A post office, drugstore, café, and tabac are also available in this typical small French village where the church is its centerpiece.
